The Mallet Manual is broken up into four sections: Scales, Four Mallet exercises, Solos, and Orchestral Excerpts.

Scales

 

​Scales are a great place to start for beginners and professionals alike. This portion of the manual not only teaches you the notes of the scale, but also has hundreds of exercises to help you become intimately familiar with each key all while developing your hands.

Four Mallets

​

The four mallet section covers the four stroke types used in four mallet playing. This part of the manual uses exercises to build technique and become familiar with common intervals found in the repertoire. â€‹

Start with these foundation building exercises to get comfortable with four mallet technique and increase your sound.

Solos

​

This section takes repertoire and breaks it down step by step to help you learn and memorize solos very quickly. Each part of the piece is first presented at tempo to help you with interpretation, and then at a very slow tempo to help you see the notes and stickings.

Excerpts

​​

Orchestral excerpts are the bread and butter of any professional orchestra audition and summer festival audition. This section presents some of the most common called excerpts in the standard repertoire.

Use this section to help quickly memorize these short passages that pack a technical and stylistic punch.
